Why You Need To Consider Having Your Own Family Picture

Some people might think taking a family picture is corny. I beg to disagree because for me this is one of my most important possessions. A simple family picture speaks a lot of stories, you know.

Allow me to share why it’s our tradition that every time when we are complete we would never forget to have our most recent family picture. If you don’t have taken one for your own family, I encourage you to consider it as urgent and why you shouldn’t forget it.

So we started taking our family picture way back 2013 and from then on, we did it every year excluding the year 2016 since I wasn’t able to go home that time. This was our 1st official picture as a family.

And this is for the year 2014.

The year 2015.

The year 2017.

And the most recent was just last April of this year.

When you look at these pictures, there’s nothing really special except that we are complete, getting bigger and we’re happy doing it. It is our own way of expressing our love and unity as a family. We struggled a lot and somehow succeeded as well in some ways.

It is just so touching to look at our progress little by little as a family and every time I go home for vacation, we always look at the same pictures and simply thank God for allowing us to spend another year together.

You know why we made it a habit or somehow family tradition?

Simply because we want to take advantage of the opportunity that we’re complete for no one knows when we’ll be complete again. We don’t know that this year or next year, one of us will work in other places and won’t be with us for some important reasons. By the way, we are not rich financially as a family but we are so rich in love and support for each other which for me are far more important.

Another reason is that we want to track the changes that happened as years passed by. You can see that there are a lot of differences from our 2013 picture up to the present. You can also see the progress when it comes to the way we took our pictures. It’s improving somehow. Haha.

I am sharing this with you because I always believe that you shouldn’t take your family for granted. You should spend time with them and let them feel that you love them especially your parents. Remember that they’re not getting younger. You need to double time before there’s no more chance for you to enjoy life with them.

This is not to warn you. I’m just stating the reality of life. If you want to live a regret-free life, you need to do something now and assess your priorities. Your life isn’t meant for you alone. It’s meant for others. Read my previous blog here.

I’d like to end here as I just want to share my thoughts about the importance of family and considering taking your own family picture. I pray and hope that from now on, you make the decision to bond with your family and create memories that will last forever.

God bless you, my friend!

P.S. We’re six siblings in the family (3 boys, 3 girls) but last January 30, 2002, our elder brother passed away due to a vehicular accident.

Why Are You Working Now?

If you are working now, this article is written for you.

Let me just ask you this question;

Why are you working now?

Surely, you have a lot of reasons to share. Below might include some of them;

  • Because you need to provide for your family
  • Because you need to support your siblings in their studies
  • Because you want to have enough money for retirement
  • Because you want to have money for travel with your loved ones
  • Because you have to support someone for his or her medical needs
  • Because you have to invest in the stock market
  • Because you have to build and start your own business
  • Because you want to help the poor
  • Because you want to give more to the church and other ministries
  • Because you want to have a better life in the future
  • Because you want to buy your favourite things
  • Because you want to practice your profession and expertise
  • Because you want to build your connection and gain new friends
  • Because you want to know yourself more and build self-confidence
  • Because you need to escape boredom at home

These are only some of the reasons I have in mind but it doesn’t end here. I believe all of them are valid reasons why you and I are working and why most of us are employed. Bottom line is we want to feel secure and prepare for the future. We want to make sure that we are an asset and not a liability. We are working because we have dreams and we want to achieve them as much as we can.

On top of these, let us remind ourselves that there should be a bigger reason why we are working. We are working not just for us and our immediate family and of course helping others. The most important is that we are working for the kingdom of the Lord, to please Him and fulfill our mission.

Our work shouldn’t be a justification that we are already good citizens though. We need to take care of our integrity and reputation especially when dealing with others.

Our work should have no conflict with the way we treat our God. It should rather make us closer to Him. Our respective job is an opportunity to share more about our Lord and how he has been so gracious to us.

Most of the times, the Lord has put us in a certain position in a certain period of time for a specific purpose. There are times that we don’t know what’s happening but just keep the faith that one day the Lord will reveal His reasons why we are here or there in the first place.

Again, let us always remind ourselves that we are not working just for us. We are working under the pleasure of our Lord. Whatever is your work now, be grateful for it even though it’s stressful sometimes. Believe that your past and current experiences are all preparations for the great plan of the Lord ahead of you. Be excited and have faith.

God bless you, my friend!

WHAT IS YOUR HAPPINESS?

What is your happiness?

Just keep your answer yourself and in this article let me share with you mine.

Aside from having a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ and with my girlfriend, my happiness is when I’m with my family.

I’m blessed growing with my whole family. As in we are complete except of course when my older brother died 16 years ago. We grew up together. We had lots of childhood memories together. We shared our experiences with each other.

But reality always strikes. After graduating in college, I left our place and found myself in Manila to take the board examination and eventually found a job. And after few years, I found myself working abroad which made me very far from my family. Thankfully, we have the technology now at least we won’t miss each other that much.

Working abroad isn’t easy but I have to sacrifice for my family as I made a promise to myself and to my parents that I will only get married when all of my siblings finish college. That motivated me to endure the loneliness whenever I miss them. I am sure of my purpose here abroad though.

By the way, while I was still working in the Philippines, I already supported my younger sister in her school fees and sometimes allowances.  But when my two sisters and our youngest brother were all in college I had to increase my income that’s why I went abroad. In other words, I had to support three of them and help my parents financially.

Thank God that after almost 7 years of working, all of them finished college already and the most recent was when our youngest brother graduated last March. I was so happy. My parents were so proud and all of us gave our praises and thanksgiving to God for after all the sacrifices, we, as a family, were able to succeed in our collective dream.

I was so happy because I was able to attend the graduation itself. It was my prayer long ago that I can attend the graduation ceremony for at least one of my siblings and the Lord was gracious enough to grant my prayer.

Being with my family is my source of happiness especially when I saw my parents happy and proud of their achievements. My heart leaped for joy when finally I was able to give back to my parents little by little because I’m fully aware of their sacrifices for us when we’re growing and during the times we’re busy in our studies. I was so happy that finally, I was able to treat them in a semi-fancy restaurant and bought for them groceries and other needs.

Every time I came home for vacation, I would make sure that most of my time will be spent with my family. As much as possible, I avoided unnecessary gimmicks with friends. And most importantly a “family picture” will always be on top of all as we wanted to take every opportunity that all of us are present.

This is my happiness. And this doesn’t mean this should be your happiness too as we have different situation and interpretation. The most important to remember is that we deserve to be happy because that’s what the Lord wants for all of us.

God bless you, my friend!
